PRP Hair Regrowth

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Our blood is made up of four components; red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma and platelets. PRP is a blood component. Platelets work by reacting to cuts and wounds to clot blood and aid healing. Plasma contains nutrients, proteins and growth factors that repair damage and injuries. These components are therefore useful to stimulate hair follicle growth, increase circulation to hair follicles and decrease inflammation.

What happens during the procedure?

Firstly, the scalp will be cleaned and numbing cream will be applied. A small sample of blood is taken from the arm and placed in a centrifuge which separates the blood components. PRP is then drawn up and injected into the areas of hair loss, stimulating the hair follicles; encouraging new hair to grow. The procedure is carried out in a sterile environment and is completely safe as your own blood is used.

PRP is very useful for:

  • Slowing the rate at which hair is lost
  • Helping new hairs grow thicker and stronger
  • Improving the overall condition of the scalp by stimulating the production of collagen
  • Preparing the quality of the hair follicles pre hair transplantation
  • Promote healing and hair growth post hair transplantation

Frequently Asked Questions

Results vary in clients, but people typically begin to see a change after 4 sessions. The quality of your PRP may affect the results so the better you look after yourself, the better results you will see.

Unfortunately there is no permanent cure for hair loss. Following the treatments, some people may require continue PRP sessions for maintenance or simply maintain the results with at home care.

? We advise that you do not touch or wash your hair after treatment for at least 4hours. Otherwise, normal daily activities can resume! There may be some mild redness, discomfort and/or inflammation which is expected. No harsh chemical colouring or perming treatments should be performed for at least 72 hours. Use of topical hair growth treatments like Minoxidil or similar can resume the following day. Laser therapy treatments can also be resumed the next day.

Clients experience very little to no discomfort during treatment. The process is quick, only lasting about 30 minutes from start to finish, and most people say the it feels like a scratching feeling and little pinches. A topical anaesthetic can be used if required.
